2017 is going to be your year – I can feel it. Those big ideas you’ve been dreaming about – its time to make them happen!

My Hammy’s dream is to take his Potato friend to every corner of the world and make lots and lots of people smile. This a pretty challenging task for a hamster! But with a little hard work, persistence and these tips, he is ready to reach for the stars. (And if he can do it, then you can too!)

Break your big dream down into smaller pieces

Sometimes our vision seems so big and far away that we get overwhelmed, and it paralyses us.  Where do you even start? Breaking it down into smaller chunks will make it much more achievable, and help you plan what to do next.

Write them down

Putting your dreams and goals into words will help you to define what it is that you really want. And displaying them somewhere you’ll see them often will remind you what you are working towards. It helps if you write it on something pretty, like our FREE “Dreams, Goals, Inspirations” downloadable

Share your goals with a trusted friend

Find someone that you know wants to see you succeed, and tell them all about your plans. Having a friend who is excited about what you can achieve will keep you motivated and accountable. When somebody else is checking in on our progress, we’re much more likely to do what we say we’re going to! And it’s always good to have someone to bounce ideas off, and help you problem solve. It doesn’t matter if they don’t know much about the subject matter – in fact having someone objective can really give you perspective!

Don’t be scared to fail

If you’re trying something new, chances are you wont get it right the first time. But if you worry too much about being wrong, you might never make a start.

As children, we’ll give anything a try – we’re not afraid of being wrong, and how quickly we learn! As we grow older we develop a fear of failure and it can paralyze us.  But making mistakes is the quickest way to learn - and it forces us to innovate, while developing the experience and resilience we need to face our next challenge.

Acknowledge your achievements

Acknowledging each small step you take towards achieving your goals cultivates positive feelings like happiness, confidence and self-respect, keeping you motivated and energized to tackle the next thing. Taking the time to celebrate your progress will also help you to enjoy the journey and be present in the moment.

It’s important that you create memories around your achievements, so that you are easily reminded what you’re capable of. This will bring you the confidence and strength to get through future moments of difficulty and self-doubt.

There are a number of ways you can do this. You could buy a commemorative piece of jewellery (a charm bracelet would be perfect – you can keep adding to it!) or start a collection of plants.

Mr Hammy recommends writing your achievements down and displaying them somewhere you’ll be reminded of them often. Our FREE downloadable “Acknowledge Yourself” worksheet will look beautiful on your wall, and you can use it as many times as you like. Every day, every week, whenever you need to remind yourself how amazing you are!

Why not print it out now and use it to reflect on what you have achieved in 2016?

So what do you think? Are you excited to make 2017 your best year yet? Do you have any extra tips or inspiration to help Mr Hammy make his dream come true? We’d love to hear from you. You can comment below or connect with us on social media!
